Acid-stained concrete is an old technique that has recently seen a rise in popularity.A concrete floor is known to be durable, low maintenance, and incredibly ugly.

Acid staining concrete floors will preserve the durable, low maintenance surface while transforming the ugly gray surface into a beautiful work of art.

The majority of acid stains are earth tones. Among these are many shades of brown, dark red, and green.

With earth tones, your floor will look like expensive stone or marble at a fraction of the cost.

The acid stain concrete job can be done by a contractor if you are not a do-it-yourself type of person. You will most likely pay around $ 4 per square foot for a basic job.

A more detailed and intricate pattern (multiple colors and designs) will cost between $ 4 and $ 10 per square foot.

It is recommended that you do a do-it-yourself job if you only need to do a basic job.In place of paying a contractor $ 4 per square foot, you can get it done for $ .50- $ 1.00 per square foot, and it will only take a few hours over two days.

No matter what level of DIY experience you have, you should be able to handle this type of project. The following steps will show you how to acid stain concrete.

Get Your Materials

Make sure you have all the materials you need before starting the project. Since you will be working with a weak acid, it is imperative that you protect yourself as much as possible.

It means wearing long sleeves and long pants, protective eyewear, a face mask, and gloves.

Other materials needed are acid concrete stain, sealer, concrete cleaner, broom, wet vac, sprayer, paint tray, and a roller.

Prepare The Surface

Since acid stains are semitransparent, any blemishes or cracks on the concrete will show through.

While hairline cracks can add character to your acid stained floor, anything else should be repaired.

You will need to clean the concrete to the best of your ability. The better it looks now, the better it will look after you apply the stain.

Apply The Stain

It is possible to do this step in a few ways, but I prefer to use an all-plastic sprayer.

As one person sprays the acid stain on the concrete, the other follows behind and brushes it in with a broom.

The brush strokes will remain, so the sprayer must go over the area again. This process must be repeated until the floor is completely covered.

Wash The Floor

It is now time to wash the floor with a baking soda and water solution in order to neutralize the acid concrete stain and remove any leftover residue. You must wash the floor twice with this solution.

Apply The Sealer

With your paint roller, apply 2-3 coats of sealer once the floor is completely dry. Once the final coat is dry, you can begin using your beautiful new floor.
